Principal's Message

Dear Parents,

Now that Spring Break has come and gone we are officially into the home stretch.  And like the spring weather in New  Mexico, things are changing and busy every day.  On Friday, April 13th, we kicked off our 2018 PARCC testing calendar with the Grant Middle School PARCC pancake breakfast.  With the help of our FFP, staff members, and administration, we served pancakes to the entire student body.  We wanted to celebrate the hard work achieved by our students and say thank you and encourage every one to do their best on the upcoming PARCC test.  The Grant faculty made a video for the students providing them with encouragement and helpful hints.  It demonstrated the power of a positive school culture and showed the students how much their teachers really value and care about them.

We have now begun the testing window and during the next four weeks we will be on a block schedule to accommodate the exam.  Students will take tests in Math and English Language Arts.  The amount of testing time has decreased which is a little different from last year.  I am asking parents to make certain their child is here every day, has had a good breakfast, and is getting plenty of rest.  Our students work hard every day, and I am expecting them to be able to demonstrate their learning with the exams.

Comcast Cares Day is Saturday, April 21st.  Comcast Cable Company chooses an APS school every spring to spend a day with their employees, and families dontate their time and efforts to help beautify the campus, inside and out.  Projects this year include additional outside seating and tables, a shade structre to be installed next to the basketball courts, landscaping projects, community garden renovation, basketball court upgrades, cafeeria painted, hallways painted and murals added.  These additions will bring a new sence of pride and owndership to our school.  I am very grateful to the APS Foundation and Comcast Cable Company for choosing Grant this year.

Faculty, students and their families are also invited to come and help with this day.  Breakfast and lunch will be provided.  In addition, a jump house will be placed on the football field, along with cotton candy and snow cone machines for kids of all ages.  Two local radio stations will be broadcasting live from Grant to highlight the fun and activities.  Thanks again to Comcast for making this happen.  Come out and help support your school!

Respectfully,

Paul Roney
